Zhuojing specialises in Polymer chemistry: highly efficient, selective and reusable technology for long-term implementation of PFAS capture.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of man-made chemicals that can travel long distances through soil and water without breaking down in the environment. Their high persistence and high affinity for biofilms have raised widespread concerns about their potential to harm human health. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop new technologies to remove PFAS from the environment to protect public and environmental health. The research will focus on developing environmentally stable and reusable fluorinated sorbents for efficient, selective and continuous removal of PFAS from various contaminated water sources.

Zhuojing Yang studied at the University of Queensland in 2021, and completed a masters degree in Molecular Biology in 2022. In 2023, Zhuojing Yang commenced PhD under the supervision of Dr Cheng Zhang and Prof Andrew Whittaker, in Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN).
